The year is off to a great start. We have a new Smartboard that we use all the time. All of us had to get use to writing on it. During our first week the class took a virtual tour of the Taj Mahal while looking at the Smartboard. The Taj Mahal was the answer to our first geography mystery question. Students are allowed to come home and ask parents if they know the answer. I prefer you have them try to look it up on the internet first with the clues they are given.
School starts at 9:00 and this year if students arrive after 9, they are counted as tardy. You will need to sign your child in at the front office if you arrive late.
Also, we have so many preschoolers this year. We are asking that parents drop off and pick children up at the front door. This will eliminate traffic jams out front. If you want to come in and talk to me, you can email or call and set up a meeting time.
The class has started reading in their reading groups and are doing great. We also started science this week. During the week the students will work making a cell model out of material found at home. These are always fun to see when they are finished. Everyone has already picked a science project to demonstrate to the other classes in October.
This year we are switching teachers for math and language arts. All the students in grades 2-6 will go to Mrs. Moore for math and to me for Language Arts.
We have a new reward system this year. Students are given play money as a reward and have to pay money back to me for consequences. They get to choose what prize they will buy when they get enough money.
