Press Release

WICHITA FRIENDS SCHOOL TO CELEBRATE ACCREDITATION WITH FAMILY PARTY
CERTIFICATION ONCE AGAIN PLACES FRIENDS SCHOOL AMONG THE BEST

WICHITA – On July 23, the Wichita Friend School is inviting students, parents, alumni and the community to join a fun-filled event to recognize its most recent accomplishment.

The party, set for 4-7 p.m. at Wichita Friends School, 14700 W. Kellogg, will feature school tours, music, games, prizes, food and a book fair. The highlight of the afternoon party will be animals on site from Tanganyika Wildlife Park.

This month, Wichita Friends School officially earned accreditation from the North Central Association (NCA)/AdvancED for a five-year term. In March, the school hosted a quality assurance review through NCA/AdvancED, a process that engaged the entire school community to evaluate improvement factors, invited external scrutiny and welcomed the constructive feedback of peers.

Shelli Kadel, head of Wichita Friends School, said the accreditation solidifies high standards the school has held throughout its 20 years of educating students from pre-school through 6th grade. Activities on July 23 will be family friendly, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Goddard Chamber of Commerce.

“For Wichita Friends School, accreditation is our recognition as one of the premier schools in Wichita,” Kadel said. “It allows us to assure parents that our individualized approach helps us remain focused on children and their achievement. Our students are working, learning and, in most cases, exceeding what would be expected in their grade level.”

Wichita Friends School is one of 86 Friends Schools in the country and a member of the Friends Council of Education, which provides a value-centered education and curricular emphasis on diversity, democracy and collaboration. The school currently serves 45 students, with five licensed teachers and numerous support staff.

Kadel said the school meets all seven NCA/AdvancED standards and uses Measure of Academic Performance tests (MAPS) to ensure the school has high levels of proficiency on a daily basis and above-normal growth patterns for students their age. All of the effort put forth by teachers and students to meeting these high standards can now be rewarded with the summer celebration.

“We now have really solid evidence of our growth and proof of the good things happening in our early childhood program and grade school,” Kadel said. “And we are ready to share our excitement with our students, their families, alumni and the community at our accreditation party on July 23.”
