Warm & Welcoming Pre-K

Hello! I am Ms. Whitney, the 4-5 year old Preschool teacher at Wichita Friends School. I couldn’t think of a better place to teach than WFS. The environment is very warm and welcoming to all that enter the door.  

I believe that children learn best when they are actively engaged in creative, meaningful play!  I focus my classroom around hands-on centers, daily art projects, and creative, dramatic play areas, and literacy-rich academics.

When you walk into the classroom you will be amazed at just how well these four and five year olds have every routine and procedure down and they know exactly when things are suppose to happen.  If I deviate from the schedule they are sure to tell me.  This year is a big year for most of my students, because I am preparing them to head off to Kindergarten.  Our day is packed full of hands-on learning, all while incorporating arts and crafts into our daily activities.  A favorite of all my students is Center Time.  This is their opportunity to use their imagination and be care-free with their play.  There is a Home Living Center, where they can pretend to cook each other various meals, or even bake me a cake!  We also have our writing center.  This center is always one to be chosen.  Here students can write letters to family members, draw pictures, or even make cards, all while working on their handwriting while having fun.  Our last center is the teacher center.  This is where I get to have one-on-one time with my students and really work with them on their academic needs.
